The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional Fishery Management Councils in the United States that make fishery management recommendations to NOAA Fisheries Service. The Council balances competing interests to make fishery management recommendations using scientific advice from NOAA Fisheries Service and public opinion. The Council’s recommendations aim to achieve the greatest overall benefit to the nation consistent with the ten national standards laid out by the Magnuson-Stevens Act.

Biographical sketch
Dale Diaz, the Vice Chair of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council, obtained his B.S. degree in Biological Science from William Carey University. Dale has spent his entire career working with Marine Resources of the Gulf of Mexico. He retired as the Office Director of the Office of Marine Fisheries for the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources in 2013. His work history includes being a owner/captain of a 52-ft. commercial shrimp and oyster vessel, a Marine Law Enforcement Officer, a Fisheries Scientist, and a Fisheries Administrator.
