Biographical sketch
Dr. Tracie Sempier serves as the Resilience Lead for the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium. She works with local communities, state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, port authorities, emergency and floodplain managers, residents, and K-12 audiences to try and decrease the negative impacts of coastal storms on families, communities, the environment, natural resources, and property. She focuses on whole community resilience to ensure sustainable infrastructure, stewardship of natural environments, a strong economy, and the development of robust social systems to sustain a good quality of life and healthy community members. She completed her Ph.D. at Mississippi State University in Curriculum and Instruction, has a M.S. in Science and Mathematics Education from Oregon State University, and holds a B.S. in Marine Science and Biology from the University of Alabama. She is a recipient of the prestigious Gulf Guardian Award and the Spirit of Community Award for her work on resilience issues in the Gulf of Mexico.
