Biographical sketch
Dr. Woodrey is an Associate Research Professor at the Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi, MS. His research and education programs focus on the conservation of coastal habitats and the birdlife that inhabit these areas. Recently, his myriad projects have focused on topics ranging from the application of prescribed fire to facilitate tidal marsh adaptation to sea level rise, documenting and understanding the socio-economic impacts of the birdwatchers on coastal communities, and evaluating methods for teaching field-based ecology courses via virtual online platforms. Further, he has continued to focus on several bird-focused projects including monitoring the birdlife of the Gulf of Mexico region, the ecology and conservation of tidal marsh birds, and understanding the effects of habitat restoration on coastal bird populations. Finally, he and his colleagues in the Coastal Avian Ecology Lab, interact regularly with natural resource managers to facilitate improved management of coastal natural resources and provide workshops and presentations to effectively educate the public about the importance of coastal habitats and their inhabitants.
